"Mulesing-free" means that the wool used in production comes from sheep that have not undergone the mulesing procedure. Mulesing is a painful practice mainly used in Australia, where the skin around the sheep’s rear is removed to prevent flystrike (myiasis). While this procedure aims to protect sheep from disease, it is highly controversial due to the cruelty involved. Sheep that undergo mulesing often do not receive anesthesia, causing significant suffering.
